Pictures of Konark Sun-Temple

This afternoon I was looking through the photos that we took a few months ago on our trip to Orissa. The Sun Temple at Konark was truly spectacular. Here are some pictures-

There are thousands of images carved in stone. The carvings are elaborate and rich in intricate details.

The Sun Temple was built in the 13th century by King Narasinha Deva. It has 24 wheels, each about 10′ in diameter and 7 horses.

There are three images of the Sun-god, positioned to catch the rays of the sun at dawn, noon and sunset. This is one of them.
The temple is in a ruined state now with the tower over the Garbhagriha missing. But even in this state it is one of the finest temples I have seen.
